Lawyer Turned Entrepreneur – Jordan Harbinger

Posted Under: Entrepreneur, Entrepreneurship, Our Heroes

Today we are talking to Jordan Harbinger our next guest under the “Our Heroes” series. Jordan, a former corporate finance attorney, now the co-founder of The Art of Charm, a company that teaches men advanced social skills along with the psychological and scientific factors of dating. Harbinger’s idea originally gained popularity as a podcast talk show, the rest is history. Let’s sit down with Jordan and talk about his success story…DD: Who are you and what kind of corporate job were you at?

JH: My name is Jordan Harbinger and I’m the co-founder of The Art of Charm, an NYC and LA-based startup company that teaches men advanced social skills and dating science. I used to be a corporate finance attorney on Wall Street.

DD: What made you leave the job? When did you realize that you wanted to be an entrepreneur & why?

JH: I was never cut out for law. Even in law school, I knew I wouldn’t be a lawyer for long, and when the economy hit the wall, I knew it was only a matter of time until I found something else to do, although I never realized I wanted to be an entrepreneur.

I’ve always been self-motivated and have a knack for “making money on the side” and for marketing. My friend and I had started a podcast talk show and it was getting popular. Our fans were offering us large sums of money to train them to be more confident, so that’s when we got the idea that this could be turned into a real business.

DD: What did you do to break the corporate jail? How did you prepare for the employee to entrepreneur transition?

JH: When my law firm was asking people to leave and take a severance package, that was the startup capital and impetus I needed to go full- time with the business. I didn’t do much preparation otherwise, and I think preparation for something like this is overrated, since nobody really knows what they’re getting into. I DID want to make sure I had 6 months of ’emergency money’ set aside in case I needed it.

DD: What are your suggestions for aspiring entrepreneurs?

JH: I suggest you just do it and stop thinking about when it’ll be “the perfect time” – THERE IS NEVER A PEFECT TIME, SO GO FOR IT! Much like going back to school, the longer you wait, the harder it gets.

DD: How are you doing and how do you feel now?

JH: We just passed a BIG milestone and we’re not slowing down at all! We’ve got a lot of exciting projects on the horizon with major corporations. The future’s so bright, we’re all wearing shades over here at The Art of Charm. 🙂

DD: That’s Jordan Harbinger, Founder of The Art of Charm. Jordan took the leap, invested his severance into a new venture and never looked back. I would second what Jordan said, the fact that “there is never a perfect time, so go for it” so, just roll up your sleeves and hit the ground learning!

Success to all!
